When Ed returns to his grandparents’ home in 1990s Manchester to pack away the belongings of his late grandfather - a distant man he barely understood - he begins to untangle a hidden thread leading back to wartime England, and to a truth his grandfather carried with him to the grave.

As past and present collide, three generations of one family are forced to confront the battles fought quietly in the shadows. And as Ed pieces together the life his grandfather kept hidden, he begins to realise that across fifty years and hundreds of miles, the two of them may not be so different after all.

Andy and Wendy Barnes first saw Pieces of String as a 20-minute presentation during a Goldsmith's college student showcase of work. The show was developed by Perfect Pitch and in 2018 Andy and Wendy partnered with Mercury Colchester and TBO to produce the premiere production. Pieces of String is currently one of four shows being further developed by Perfect Pitch as part of a consortium partnership with US licensing house Broadway Licensing and Broadway producer Kevin McCollum’s company Alchemation.
